Preloved clothing and upcycled accessories to pop up at Grand Arcade

On 28 and 29 October, as part of the Let’s Go Circular week in Grand Arcade, one of the shopping units will be dedicated to a carefully curated collection of preloved clothing from Trash Chic and Pam’s Fantasia. There’ll be upcycled bags by QHere and Mouse & Bear, as well as styling advice and tips from Velvet Magazine’s stylist Kath Goodwin.

Abigail Plet will be on hand to teach people how to mend moth holes in their favourite jumpers, and to add extra fizz to the occasion Bubbly Bandits will be serving their delicious Italian sparkling wine.

Meet the collaborators!

Fantasia

Pam Wesson set up Fantasia 10 years ago … a pop-up emporium of the exotic and eclectic ... a joyous jumble of finds, from antique art and textiles to new or pre-loved clothing. Expect to find labels like Missoni, Moschino, D&G, Loro Piana, M&F Girbaud, Issey Miyake, Etro, Burberry and Jaeger. Pam first popped up at Hope Street Yard, moved on to Mill Road and in 2020/22 ran her dazzling pop-up boutique from Rose Crescent and Bloomsbury, London.

Trash Chic

Trash Chic is all about exploring your own style in an affordable planet-friendly way. Owner Jane Horwood spends many hours sourcing her carefully curated collection of preloved clothing.  It’s not label driven and spans the decades which means you can find high street and designer brands on the rails, nestling alongside some quirky and unexpected items. The ethos of Trash Chic is reclaim, recycle, reuse so you can also pick up one of Jane’s unique customised or upcycled garments. Trash Chic is a fun and fabulous way to revive and revitalise your wardrobe.  “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” Yves Saint Laurent.

QHere

What can you do with punctured bicycle inner tubes and expired advertising banners? Ruth Schmid from Cambridge has found an answer. She collects piles of bicycle inner tubes from bike repair shops and advertising banners from past-the-date exhibitions and festivals and turns them into fun and sustainable bags in her workshop at the Cambridge Art Salon.

Disposing of bicycle inner tubes and advertising banners in landfills is a bad idea. Turning them into fun and functional bags and purses is an important contribution to reusing and recycling valuable resources. The bags are hard-wearing, versatile and water resistant … and each one is unique.

Mouse & Bear

Abigail Plet makes sustainable tote bags from repurposed fabric scraps found in charity shops, remnant baskets and sample books (when she can get her hands on them). No offcut is too small to escape Abigails eye, which means wastage is minimal. Each bag is unique and there’s a fantastic range of styles and colours. Many are lined with a contrasting fabric.
