Join the Riot encouraging older women to express their authentic self

I'm excited to announce the launch of the Riot Women of Cambridge, a photoshoot and movement that encourages individuality, confidence, and authentic style for women of all ages.

Inspired by the BBC TV series Riot Women – in which a group of middle-aged ladies set up a punk band and find themselves in the process – this new project invites women to rediscover their fashion freedom, embracing bold, quirky outfits that speak to who they truly are.

As women reach their 40s, 50s, and beyond, many find themselves feeling invisible in a society that often limits how older women are expected to dress. Recent research by Women’s brand Klass found that 44% of the 2,000 females it surveyed shared that they’ve felt invisible from as young as 36. As a 66 year old woman I understand the pressure to conform to age-old fashion rules, which is why I created a photoshoot entitled Riot Women of Cambridge - a celebration of women breaking free from these constraints and embracing the freedom to dress for themselves.

I wanted to give ladies a space to feel empowered and confident in their clothes, no matter their age. Too often, women over 40 are made to feel they should ‘dress their age’ but I believe there are no rules when it comes to style. Fashion should be fun and expressive, and the Riot Women are reflecting just that: confidently embracing their unique style and letting their clothes reflect their personality.

Riot Women of Cambridge

Reclaiming confidence through clothes

For many women, years spent in corporate jobs or raising families often meant toning down their personal style to fit in. But as they transition into new phases of life - be it children leaving home, launching a business, retiring, or simply having the freedom to experiment - they are reclaiming their right to have fun with their wardrobes.

The Riot Women of Cambridge come from all walks of life but share a common desire: to rediscover a love of fashion. Whether they’re revamping their existing style or experimenting with new trends, Trash Chic is a non-judgemental place where women can break free from the constraints of mainstream fashion and shop preloved pieces that truly reflect them.

Preloved fashion doesn’t follow trends or seasons. It gives you the freedom to create a style that’s all your own and wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident.

The power of preloved

At Trash Chic, the focus is on offering one-of-a-kind pieces that allow customers to express their individuality. My curated collection is all about empowering women to experiment with their style and inject a burst of energy into their wardrobes. Whether it’s a bold colour, a vintage piece, or an unexpected mix of textures and patterns, Trash Chic provides the perfect opportunity to embrace quirky, distinctive fashion.

For the Riot Women of Cambridge, Trash Chic is more than just a place to shop - it’s a community where women of all ages can feel confident in their choices and proud of their personal style. With the freedom to shop without the pressure of seasonal trends, they are finding joy in clothes that are as unique as they are.
