Denim is on trend this Autumn – how will you wear it?
Denim has been a staple of our wardrobes for decades as it’s versatile, durable and can be dressed up or down as occasion demands. Seems like we never tire of denim and catwalks this year have certainly been embracing this universal fabric.
Jeans come in a range of styles so suit every shape and size with slouchy baggy wide-leg jeans being this summer’s most popular silhouette, alongside the sculptural ‘horseshoe’. Think vintage, boho and relaxed. In contrast, tailored jeans make a different statement with an air of sophistication.
I’ve spotted a lot of young women wearing long fitted denim skirts which takes me back to the 70s. I picked up an amazing denim trench coat recently which was reminiscent of one I used to wear with a long gold skinny tassel scarf and love beads.
While I enjoy a trip down memory lane, fashion is also about moving forward and finding your own style.
At my next Re-Fashion pop-up at Grand Arcade in Cambridge, there’ll be plenty of denim on the rails including some of the jackets, coats and dungarees I’ve been customising. I’m hoping this will be a source of inspiration to people wanting to add some individuality to their wardrobe.
Make the most of your denim styling sessions
You probably have a fair bit of denim already. Most of us do. But perhaps you’ve fallen out of love with the garments or feel they’re dated and not fitting in with other clothes you wear.
Help is on hand. Velvet Magazine stylist Kath Goodwin is running styling sessions over the Re-Fashion weekend 28/29 September to help you invigorate your wardrobe. She can offer ideas and advice on how to up-style or even transform your denim clothing into new garments and accessories.
Book a 45-minute session with Kath for just £15.
Quick up-styling fix
There’ll be patches and badges for sale at the event. So why not bring in a jacket or something you’d like to add some va-va-voom to. Cosmin Diaconu of Retro Gusto will have his sewing machine at the ready.
Please note not all fabrics will suitable so make sure it’s something substantial like denim.
ReCoding denim with unique hand-made jackets
The ReCode jacket is a collaboration between Andy Boothman of DressCode and Cosmin Diaconu of Retro Gusto to develop a sustainable solution to stop denim dumping.
The jackets will launched at the Re-Fashion pop-up where'll you be able to try and place your order.
